SL280
Good morning, I wonder if anyone can help me out with a problem I have.
My mercedes 1996 SL280 has been sat on the drive for a while, the battery was flat, have recharged it. Car turns over but wont start. when I press the button on the key fob I dont get either the red or green lights flashing. Have changed batteries and still get nothing.
Have tried to resync but not sure I am doing it correctly.any advice greatly appreciated.

Sounds as if the immobiliser is not disarming. Have a look for posts describing the various ways to sync the keys to the car. If you have another remote / key try that.-you should have 2. The first key may have gone faulty.

I have 2 keys, have tried both and get same result, no red/green light.
Have looked at threads on resyncing keys but there seem to be a few different ways, does anyone know which way is best for my R129 SL

Well, I have tried resyncing the keys to the car, there are still no lights coming up (red/Green) so tbh I am going to sell the car as is. Simply becoming too much of a hassle, need to keep my other 3 cars going and they're easier to deal with so watch out for a very cheap Full MBSH SL280 coming up on ebay soon

I seem to remember that if either filament in the red or green lamps had gone ( were little bulbs in the rear view mirror housing, not LEDs as you would have expected) gave rise to compounding issues with the immobiliser, on my early W210 I seem to remember it caused the immobiliser not to set, I wonder if it could be anything other?

Probably a bum steer but worth a shot, maybe not even the same setup !

Had five mins to spare and found this:

Ineffective Immobilizer - Mercedes-Benz Owners' Forums

Check out post number #6 here, along the same lines of my W210 issue with the immobiliser. Although for a different model, seems this is a known issue with the filiament lamps in rear view mirror. Nice to know the memory still works !

Worth a shot.

Good luck

Steve
