Car dealers -The best and the worse

Please excuse my ignorance; can anyone tell me why does the same service on a diesel variant cost more than its petrol equivalent?

For the same reason that Diesel fuel costs more than petrol.

Diesel cars in great demand so there's a price to pay.... and owners will pay it.

If the computer says 'no' what can we do sir?

I understand it doesn't start, but we have scanned it a few times now and it is not showing any faults so nothing we can do other than hand you the keys back.

This is what I'm getting. I get a light vibration that I can feel through the steering wheel. It's not restricted to when the vehicle is cold as can happen after 2 hrs of driving while stopped at lights or a roundabout. The car went in for Service B yesterday and I asked the dealer to check it for faults. When telling the service guy the symptoms he said it might be either the injectors or the fuel pump. They haven't done anything as they couldn't replicate the fault and they ran a diagnostic check and it didn't show any error codes.

I've been asked to keep an eye on it and if it happens again to bring it in and they will give me a loan car and hold on to mine for a few days to witness it happening. It's on a 1 yr Approved Used Mercedes warranty and basically I was told that if the fault happens after the end of the warranty, then I'm on my own in spite of the fact that I have reported it well within warranty.

There seems to be an over reliance on the electronic diagnostics now, and they don't reduce their labour charges. We had a Nissan Dealer try to say that he would need the car in for 2/3 hours to do a diagnostic check. He was telling us the bill would be £250+ just to check. We said no. Since when is plugging in a computer 'labour'?

Mercedes 12th
Audi 23rd
BMW 24th

With years of receiving BMW customer service and only months from Mercedes, the latter are definitely winning me over.

BMW used to provide courtesy BMWs through Enterprise, that changed to being charged £20 and then simply not available. MB gave me a ML to replace my c63 estate, for free.

MB have a goodwill scheme for items out of warranty, BMW never did.

And in terms of sales, MB already won me over last year.

Now it's down to the cars, still undecided.

BMW took the price of insuring a courtesy car out of their service price around 4 or 5 years ago, most people can get their own insurance swapped over for free or if they choose to pay the £20.
They decided to do this when they brought in the while you wait service, rather than charge less for a while you wait service they reduced the price across the board.

Mercedes still charge you for a courtesy car regardless of whether you use it or not.

I prefer BMWs way personally.

This really annoys me with Mercedes.
Audi are the same.

I know people who have had a clutch and flywheel changed on a BMW when it was out of warranty because they had reported it beforehand but it wasn't until much later before they heard there was a revised unit BMW were fitting.

Mercedes are moving all the dealers onto MyService https://www.mymercedesservice.co.uk/home and it seems trying to force the dealers to stick to it. The basic service price is only available to "drop and go" customers. It costs more to wait! Courtesy car or collect and delivery is £50!!

I am not going to an MB dealer any time soon, I am very happy with Olly PCS, but regardless I love the new website - clear and simple to use. Well done to whoever designed it. It's perfect, in my opinion.

Shame that the quality of the actual service at most dealers does not match the website and does not live up to the expectations it creates.

:p

Surely every dealer is worse than the best?
