im looking to rent a 4x4 in scotland for a week in january.

normally im hiring from the normal multinational car hire firms, but these guys are a good bit cheaper. does anyone here know or have used 4x4hirescotland.co.uk ?

any feedback would be great,

thanks

They are just round the corner from me with the glasgow office , ive seen their odd car sitting out in the road but never used them or been into them.

Have you tried Enterprise? We tend to find them cheaper in terms of headline rates than the likes of Hertz and Avis - and the smaller branches may also be negotiable for more than a few days hire.

Who ever you hire from and if its on-road only you really want to look at protecting your excess. Its the biggest rip off from hire companies worldwide, its where they make their money.

Check out Car Hire Insurance | Car Rental Excess Insurance (no I dont work from them but i used to, and as much as it pains me, it is a good product and i suggest purchasing from them. They are the market leaders)

ive been renting cars for years i never take out the excess protection, as i think THATs the rip off. in the unlikely event i have an accident i will have saved up for an excess or two by not paying for the 'protection' over the years. as with any insurance they wouldn't sell it unless they make money on it. also i dont think its valid if it snowy etc

Will you be taking the vehicle off road or on road only?

i will be staying on road, but just in case it snowy i want a 4x4. that, and i need a big car.

Fine, it's only a suggestion. But, all hirer companies, mainly the larger ones, would be happy to charge an excess for damage even if there isnt a thing wrong with the car. Just reference the Sunday Times travel section at the moment, there is an ongoing saga on this.

I go over the car like CSI if i hire and make them note down everything on it.

You are right though its dead easy to just collect a car with a big scratch on it and then get charged for that scratch. Wash rinse and repeat for a dodgy business.
