My mum parks her ford ka in a residential street close to the town centre at which she works and has never had a problem, in fact she is now friends with many of the residents there. yesterday however her car was hit when parked there by what looks like a low loader. the whole of the front bumper has been cracked meaning one side down to the wheel arch is hanging off, the offside headlamp is cracked and there is a large deep and long crease on the front edge of the bumper.

to do this sort of damage takes more than an error of judgement when parking and its sad that someone can do this and drive away. i fear that there is substantial damage behind the bumper and that the cost will be getting on for a grand!

Sorry to hear about this :( I take it there's no chance of CCTV covering the street? If it was done by a low loader or articulated vehicle maybe the driver really didn't know they had hit the Ka?

Sorry to hear this and it's probably of no comfort, but depending on the vehicle that hit your mums car, they probably didn't even know they had done it.

My local bin men reversed into a lampost (large cast iron one) and didn't even feel it, I had to go and tell them they had flattened the post so they could report it and get the council to put it up again.

cheers for sympathies, insurance have arranged for it to be picked up on friday, as its a residential street there is no cctv, and as the vehicles tend to park close together its always a chance this can happen, but i would imagine it would take either an extremely heavy vehicle travelling at low speed (of which there isnt likely to be parking on this street) or more likely a careless idiot in a small commercial vehicle that drove off when realising what they did, just hope the premium doesnt go up too much!!

Having once worked for a removal company, (large trucks that do drive down small streets) i can vouch that you wouldn't neccesarily feel it if you hit a parked car while maneuovering. I once knocked over a whole garden wall on the way out from a job and the first i knew of it was the b****king i got when i returned to the depot where the walls owner had phoned up and complained.

The amount of damage a truck can do to a small car even at extremely low speeds is unbeleivable !! I would like to think that whoever did it didnt notice that he had or would have left a note , but then i'm an optimist.

Anyway , glad the insurance is sorting it out for you, we've got a KA and i love it to bits, its like a little go kart !!

From an insurance point of view you should be ok though.
How's that? You still end up paying for it, including the excess.
