    Hi guys,

I'm new to the forum so be nice.
I'm going to be the proud new owner of a 2nd hand 2005 CLK 240 Elegance Convertible from a private seller. But before that, I thought it may be a good idea to get the car independently inspected for any problems, especially since my knowledge of engines only go so far as to say, "ooo, that sounds nice...".

I have got a quote from http://www.car-inspection.co.uk/ of £220 which includes a HPI check, but not sure if they're any good?
The car is going to be in the Croydon area of London.

Any advice would be most welcome.

    Thanks.

Should that be 2 star checks...one on the bonnet, one on the boot...

Whoops. Busy xmas and new year meant I neglected to check here after I saw no reply in 1 week.
I went with http://www.auteco.co.uk/ in the end as the car inspection company's website just looks a tab un-professional what with that skull and crossbones....

Auteco was alright, nothing in particular for me to recommend or un-recommend them as it goes, but they did their job, which was lucky since the 2 rear tires needed replacing (worn to the point they were illegal). That's a few hundred quid in the pocket!

Seller helpfully agreed to replace the tires at own cost so we're happy all round.

    Thanks for the replies guys!

WOW is it possible to work on a car with a mobile ramp or should it only be used for inspections??
