Last year I paid £450.

This year my renenwal has come through at £550 (with nothing changed from last year other than I now have another ncb)

Now, I surely shouldn't have to pay £550 to insure my car, given:

Good Postcode
Atleast 10yrs ncb (unsure how many exactly but atleast 10)
28 yrs old
no claims
no convictions
no modifications
car kept in secure garage at home
10,000 miles per year

Am I missing something (this is with Priviledge by the way), shopping around everyone else seems to come in at £800-£1000!?

id go on confussed, this happened to me last year with my van insurance, i even went on the web site of the insurance company i used and put my details in again and still could not get to as much as my renewal. I rang them and they couldn,t explain why the renewal was so much.
and yes i did find one cheaper, (with greenflag thrown in!) worried me though as like alot of people you just pay it, (unless alarm bells ring) and i had just renewed the car ins.

confused, gocompare and compare the market have all been used to no avail

I agree with abov , could also be because you have youth on your side . he he

Back in june i shopped around the internet, & couldnt find a better deal than my local broker, so thats who got my money ! BEWARE OF CHURCHILL, they tried to con me with FREE breakdown cover that ONLY tows you home if you're less than 10 miles from home !

By the way, my comprehensive cover cost £146.91 hehehe & thats £9 cheaper than last year (on an Astra 1.6 16v).

most insurance companies are tied to banks/ finance institutions. churchill and direct line- RBS. sheilas wheels, sainsuburys, esure. BOS/Lloyds.

Basically they all want money and we all know the easiest target to squeeze money off. Everyone is doing it, clampers, councils, e.t.c so why will they not get in on the act. Mine only went down £20 and when i used comparison websites the best i could get was £200 more, so i just renewed.

Try the Post Office.

Seriously. Try them.

Also bear in mind many insurance companies have seen their free asset ratios decline due to large falls in equities........

I think that this is closer to the truth of why prices are perhaps fluctuating at the moment.

Moneysupermartket.com

Kwikfit insurance was the cheapest for me... I'm not tell how much though.... I have convictions etc...

This is standard form - they hope you will take no action and let it auto-renew.

Go on their own website and quote yourself for the same policy and you will see it is substantially cheaper. Save this quote online. The ring them and say what you have done and they will match it. Job done. This is just the murkier side of insurance where they make most of their money form complacency.

I am with Privilege and do this every year. I do the same with DirectLine for my home insurance. Example, last year they wanted almost £1,000 to renew my buildings and contents insurance and the online quote was nearer £300. they matched it without question.

By the way, I don't trust the comparison websites, not only do they sell on your details many times over, but you should also know who owns the comparison websites - I was told that Admiral owns confused.com I might have been misinformed, buy you never know....

I'm lazy... I use a good broker who does all this for me....my car insurance hasn't changed much in the last 3 years......just the company changes..:D

I left kwik fit fast After come renewal time when i asked for my NCB proof, they claimed i had not paid my first month instalment By DD. I said and you waited a whole year to tell me that.
Of course i knew i had paid it all and after requesting bank statements i was proved right. The cheats. Cost them money too. Haha
