MB GLC250
My neighbour (shared driveway) backed her RAV4 into the Merc yesterday....
Not too bad, we thought...but have taken it to Hilton (who just resprayed it under warrenty) - MB Hertford bodyshop people, and the bumper is broken, as are some brackets, so it may well be written off.......It all depends on if the panel needs replacing or if it can be banged out.

So what kind of figure should I look for should it go this way....It's just been resprayed under warrently, had two new front wings, new dampers all round, 4 new tyres, new front pads and disks......I'm the 2nd owner, full MB history, 84k miles.

I feel for you mate.

Regards,

KJ

That can be pulled out these days, there are some super tools out there now.

What a shame though and there is the danger of the paint becoming too thick, so maybe a lot to come off, but easy these days

I've had worse damage than that on a 202 & it was repaired, in any case, you are not liable, so the 3rd party insurers are required to put you back into the position you were before the incident, regardless of cost.

That is really unfortunate.

If it was my car and it was written off I would buy it back and get it repaired with a secondhand bumper.

The top part of the bumper comes seperatly any way.

Ask for a £1500 contract repair, you should be able to get the car repaired for less than £500...

A contract repair is better than it being written off and you buying it back, as it won't be recorded.

Awful luck. Hopefully it will get resolved to your satisfaction quickly.

As for how much you ought to receive, then the answer is always more than the insurance company offer you. Even if they offer more than you're expecting, say you're expecting more.

Might be worth pulling together some ads for similar cars for sale now, and add a reasonable amount for recent maintence.

That should be an easy repair and why does it need a bumper, surely it just needs painting.

Got the quote back - £2300.00 - parts + labour.......Haven't yet read the detail.....As I'm not paying I don't really care, but it does sound a bit steep.....

I'd get a few quotes.

Don't accept anything the insurance company offers you straight away.

Usually when it is known that it is an insurance job, the price does go a bit mental to say the least !!!!!

I take it the quote was not from the insurance approved bodyshop ?

Quote was from the MB Bodyshop at MB Hertford....

Gutted! I hope it all turns out ok.

Found THIS on eBay - wrong side though

£2300 is ridiculous to be honest. Halve that figure at least.

I just paid £600 to have a perfect paint job done on the bonnet, both front wings, front and rear bumpers and a small repair on the rear quarter that meant painting the whole panel.

The price you have been quoted is just plain crazy.

If you were to replace all the damaged parts with new which insurers often insist on - the bumper assembly - the entire rear wing removed and replaced with new- then the wheel arch resealed and rustproofed etc repaint the whole offside I could see that mounting up to £2300. Most owners paying for this themselves would get the wing beaten out and filled and the bumper repaired as said previously at a fraction of the cost. Funnily enough that approach might be best since the factory seams would remain undisturbed BUT---- its an insurance job.

It's a 3rd party insurance claim so you can insist they fix it at any cost, can't you.

Do just that.

Way too excessive!

Ask bodyshop what labour rates they are using as they apply different labour rates for different customers and sounds as if they are using their highest rate.

my ex g/f/ used to work for a MB body shop and told me about it.
