car park scratch

Hi,
Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere.

Cleaned the car today and discovered a chip/scratch on the front wheel arch. I expect it's the kind of mark left by a shopping trolley or a badly aimed door from an adjacent car.

Anyway, it's not dented and I wondering if anyone has used one of the companies that come to your home or work and fix the scratch?

I'm trying to get a handle on cost. Do they work? Would my paint warranty be affected?

The scratch is only about 2cm X 1/2 cm with a ragged edge.

I probably shouldn't let it worry me but you know how it is when the car's a few months old and it's the 1st such mark!

(looking at the heading again, I've a sudden urge for a packet of pork scratchings)

Cheers

It sounds like a simple touch up job - I wouldn't get it sprayed if you're concerned about your Warranty - they check all paint thicknesses now and have been know to refuse claims on the basis the paint doesn't match other panels. Give it a polish and wax and see how bad it really is.

Hi,

I would highly recommend a company called chips away, they are a franchise so quality may vary between locations. I use a bloke who covers the Banbury area in North Oxfordshire. he does work for Mercedes Benz of Oxford. When I bought a second hand E Class from Merc of Oxford they used him to sort out various stone chips on the bonnet when prepping the car prior to me taking delivery. Excellent work.

He also fixed a nasty scratch on my SLK350 when as JCB being carried on a flat bed decided to throw a chunck of crap at my car on the M42. Very nasty scratch down to the bare metal on the front wing. After chips away fixed it you would not know it was there, I have looked in all sorts of lights and at different angles and you cannot see the scratch. All for GBP95. Very very good value.

moving to bodywork....
