My old business partner paid £499 more than that for a 3 bed semi in Watford in the same year.

I paid £55,000 for a 1 bed flat in Colindale in Dec 95.
A bit of a digression, but was Colindale a bit of a dump back then? My one bed flat in Chelsea was £250k in March 1995 and my 2 bed flat in Manchester was £75k at the same time...

Ergh - you did...
Never heard of hyperbole?!! :wallbash:

Oh you were making an exaggerated statement for comedic effect and wouldn't really take the E class over a Fiesta.

I get it now.,,you weren't meant to be taken seriously ...sorry for misunderstanding you..

Why so defensive? I'm sure there's a Fiesta forum out there for you somewhere! :D

Mid £30k for a poverty spec photocopier salesman C class isn’t exactly a bargain either
My dad’s first Merc ( W110 190b ) was £1700 brand new in 1964 . Yes one thousand seven hundred . He also bought my mum a new Beetle that year : it was £600 ish .

The W115 220/8 was £2100 in 1970 , and the W123 200 was £7000 odds in 1977 , which at the time seemed a huge jump from the last one , which I was given when I passed my test .

Didn’t a Mercedes save your life once in a head on collision with a Capri?
You should tell us about it sometime.😂

My mate bought a new 190e in 1988 for £19063.30 delivered. Eleven years later he gave me the car and bought a Boxster for £42,499.99. I bought the Boxster from him 2 years ago and have the original invoices from both cars.

Adjusted for inflation, £51,500 now for the 190 and £74,200 for the Boxster.

When I was a boy , 20 anyway , I worked for Ford at their Swansea Plant. My first new car , with Ford discount was £1050 on the road. Ford Escort Sport 1300 , extras were cloth seats (in lieu of vinyl) and a push button radio (extra).
To put that into context my annual salary was £2400.

Lee,I remember my wife and I driving over to see the 190e sat on my mates drive , with its pre-registered "F" prefix. Pity I can`t drive it until tomorrow he says , but it will stand out like a sore thumb. I happened to have a roll of insulation tape in my car which transformed it to an "E" reg so we were able to take it for a spin! He had deliberated over buying a Granada Scorpio or a 190E . Fortunately he saw sense and bought the Merc.
The Boxster was registered on my birthday ( coincidental as it was his car not mine) and I went with him to collect it from **** Lovett Porsche. I recall telling him he was mad to pay around £9k for extras , which was more than I could afford for a car!( glad now that he did) We drove to a pub for a celebratory drink and as we pulled into the carpark the heavens opened up. That was probably the one and only time the interior got wet, other than my dog peeing on the seats , ( until i bought it and it p*ssed down when I was driving in Devon) . Never imagined that I would one day own it and it is a credit to him that at 32k miles and 21 years it looks as good today as it did then. Looking at todays prices I certainly still couldn`t afford a new one Lee , but I love it. Pity he bought it just before the Boxster "s"came out! Apart from a holiday in Yorkshire last year ( okay it is very picturesque mate) , it really does not get used enough. Pandemic permitting we are taking her to Norfolk next month to add a few miles. Stay safe.
