Car Spluttering Any Idea please

Hi all I just got a 1997 E230 auto, Had the car about 4 weeks and I have a problem when I start it up. The car starts first turn of the key but it starts to splutter and the revs go from about 700 to 1000 up and down for about 5 mins, after that the car runs fine. I have done the plugs, air filter but have no idea what to try next can anyone help please.

Clean out the throttle body and check the wiring to it.

Get it plugged in too.

Hi thanks for the info, I tried cleaning the throttle body but its just the same.
It only seems to be when the car is cold any other help will be appreciated.

Get it plugged in.

As Olly has said, get the car plugged in to a diagnostic computer.

Hi and thanks for the advice, I now think I found the answer. I did the plugs air filter cleaned the throttle body and cables but just the same. I have now have it fixed I got a new MAF sensor and presto no more spluttering.
