Hi all,

Does anyone know of a good value car storage facility in Sussex / Kent. I want to store my SL500 for a while. Ideally a place with trickle battery charge facility, maybe occasional starting and running.

I don't want to pay an absolute fortune of course, but I've not explored what these places charge.

Cheers

Ian

How long do you mean by a while?

I stored my Z4 at a caravan storage place near Benenden. I don't believe it had access to power though. You may find a similar facility close to you and you can ask the question.

Well you might find the cheapest solution would be to look for companies who have 20ft containers for storage, many are repaired distressed boxes and many supply a electricity supply namely a light ,your car could drive into one of them and the trickle charger rigged up to the light,it would be the cheapest and most secure way of storing your car,we also have a forum member who I thinks works for a storage company over that way, thay store very top end vehicles but the cost would make your eyes water.

I have been thinking of doing something like this on the bit of land we have attached to this house. I store my own cars here at the moment & did store a customers Alfa Spider for him last year. I have a mix of garage, stable & polytunnels at the moment but considering constructing something customised for this use.

I have put power with trickle chargers & Maeco dehumidifiers set at 55% RH & works well for me cars. It does make a massive difference to their condition rather than being kept outside or under covers.

Currently have space for 8 cars undercover controlled but considering doing one unit that could do more in one block.

How much are the costs for such storage?

I've heard of places charging around £25.00 a week. I live overseas and want to store it somewhere secure. I already store it somewhere inside and pay for this, but the guy isn't the most careful. In the last 2 years he's broken a indicator, fried my roof module ECU after jump starting it and has just lost my spare remote key hence why I'm looking for alternatives. He did pay for all the issues....well not the key yet...but I will try!

A quick google search unearths prices between £20 - £50 a week in the home counties depending on the quality of the facility and the service required.

This is actually less than I though it would be.

Nice to know. I think at 100-125 per month it would make sense to invest some cash to build something. No planning needed at 2.5m-3m less than 96m sq & only building regs needed for bigger.

Might give me some short to medium use for some of the land while I go through a long painful planning process for other options.

I considered storing my SLK in one of these places to free up my garage and use it for daily driver. However good places I know of or found are a bit far away and I can't be bothered to travel that far to get my car. There are some places closer but prices are a bit higher and facilities/services not that great. I looked at Surrey, Kent, Sussex. There's a place near East Grinstead, worth checking MCS Car Storage - Car storage specialists Other place I know and was used by my friend is in Surrey and is Universal Classic Cars Storage – Car Storage Hampshire & Surrey | Untitled They have different level of services and prices.
