Car stuck in Park

HI there

Yesterday, whilst my wifes car (C200 kompressor sport coupe 2002) was cold it would not shift out of Park. Only after 3 min, once the engine had warmed up - could I engage a gear.

The same happened today.

Any ideas?

check the ATF fluid level?

Brake light switch?

Possibly the solenoid on the side of the gear selector unit sticking due to the cold.
