    Hi all,

Thank you for looking at my post.

A few days ago my key fob stopped starting the car, I can put the key in and it will turn however it will not engage or unlock the steering, the dashboard lights will not come on. This issue started intermittently, and now it will not work.

    what I have checked/done:

    1. Replaced the battery
    2. Car doors will lock/unlock
    3. Infared on key fob is working.

The car works absolutely fine with the spare key, no issues there.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to look at my post. Can anyone suggest anything?

    regards

I assume this is a relatively new car where the key turns in the ignition slot even if it is not for that car. Old enough though to have the traditional style ignition slot.

If the other key works fine and IR is good on the misbehaving key, then it is quite likely the coil that picks power for the key when inserted into the ignition slot. These fail if keys are dropped on a hard floor etc. Sometimes you can make the key work by powering it up (the key) by pressing the "open doors" button and then trying to use the key. A bit time critical to make it work. Since this was not the only key for the car, better to follow the advice above (no need for any temporary fix).
