GLE, AMG Line
Hi
Car has been having problems with false Adblue messages and the MB breakdown guys
not being able to update the car's computer/harddrive, ie their system is clearing the engine management
light and Adblue messages but the car remains in orange light mode and been advised it won't let the car rev more than 3000 revs. Today a new message came up about Adblue Eg "Engine won't start in 497 mies"
I thought car was driving ok until I joined nose to tail traffic and felt it was not and breakdown guy confirmed car's performance is being limited.
Car is a gle from new, 14700 miles, fully serviced by MB and one driver, gently driver.
I'm a but pissed off that a car of this price should get f/d up and I may need to pay thousands to sort it out. Whatever it is, IMO if costs more than a couple of hundred quid IMO MB uk should pay

The mobile guys won't be able to update the engine management system as car will need to be on a stable power supply etc
I assume less than 3. years old given its a GLE, what does the dealer say ?

In 497 miles it wont start if it says it wont !! Could just be a sensor in the adblue tank saying its empty ! (I assume its not :) )

Richard

ps, ask the dealer for goodwill - but cars do break down - no matter how expensive they are ..

Thanks Richard the car is 3 yrs and just under 5 months old

I accept that all cars breakdown regardless of price and also where do you draw the line.

But to throw away possibly 2k etc for a car as old as mine, one careful owner, serviced by MB at the appropriate times.
to go wrong like this cause me headaches and worry what bill they throw at me and then what goes next as when things like this go wrong other items will follow.

Thank you, I will ask for goodwill or all costs as its also costing me time and effort. IMO, a car of this standard must have components of
reasonable quality and fit for the purpose and to be spending possibly thousands on a car less than 3 years old because of faulty
components does not feel right.

Thanks

Forgive me, but who said it's going to cost 2k to fix?
It could be as simple as a sensor needing replaced, nothing more.
From your original post, I quote, "Any ideas? (Don want to pay Merc the 80/90 pounds."
I would suggest you do exactly that and see what the diagnosis is as a first step, and then act accordingly?

I've assumed you've had a diagnosis and a quote from MB for £2k otherwise you are just guessing and without me doing diagnosis on the car, I would just guessing at what could be wrong !! - And I also assumed that only the roadside people said they couldn't update the firmware.

You're going to have to pay for them to work out what is wrong before any chance of goodwill to repair what has gone wrong!

A simple sensor fault will not cause further failures, ie "when things like this go wrong other items will fail" - a sensor just reports values to the control unit which interprets them ...

I would say keep pushing the dealer for goodwill contribution from MB UK, and if no luck then get it fixed at a specialist, it will work out much cheaper than fixing it at the dealer.

As I recall when I was in a similar position if you end up having the car recovered by Mobilo and are supplied with a hire car but then choose not to have the dealer carry out the repair you will be charged for both recovery and the hire car.

I’d probably take it to a decent indie and have the fault diagnosed properly and take things from there.

Adblue has always been an issue, even on coaches and trucks.

I once had a brand new £300,000 coach and it had adblue faults coming up within 3 months of taking delivery.

That turned out to be a sensor and required an update.

Hi all

Many thanks to all and I do mean all that have contributed here as I have taken all on board.
Now I am better armed and better prepared.
It's not just the money but the inconvenience of not knowing what it is, being miffed at the possible large cost -
us needing this car next week and as I worry and am a negative person at times, once this is fixed, what next, lol. But thanks again

To put it into perspective, I had some very good news as well yesterday, and that was I was given the all-clear at the hospital this time around again and my next check-up is in 9 months :)

Like many, I've been here on and off since 2004 and do recognise names and wish you all of the best.
Once I've got this sorted, I amy buy a 2-year warranty plan, the ones that cover most items for a piece of mind

Enjoy your day and the upcoming long weekend

I will update as soon as I know practicable.

:)

Great news on the all clear, reading between the lines it seems this may have been the hair breaking the camels back, you are on a positive run now so hopefully just a sensor or dpf issue.

Next time steer clear of diesels, devils fuel [emoji6]

Make sure it covers the emissions system (which the AdBlue is part of) as with some of the 3rd party warranties it's an option.

I wouldn't run a modern diesel without some form of warranty - just renewed the VW warranty on wife's Tiguan which uses AdBlue although I suspect at £350 that's probably a lot less than it'll cost on your car.

Thank you all again been to MB
They gave us a loan car.
Rang them, they've worked on her and unable to upload software.
They tried another car as well and same problem. They feel that
sytems in German may have a glitch and will try again and unlikely car will to be fixed today.
They felt it is a software glitch or sensor and promise to update me asap.
The person I dealt with was a very pleasant one.

SL500AMG: Yes, "steer clear of diesel." I agree. I had been a petrol man since my first car at 17 so about 38 years of petrol, but
as I awaus like the ML and now the GLE and was fortunate enough to be in a position via our hard work to buy a new one for cash,
I was not able to justify the petrol version coming in at close to 80k I think.

Cheers Rory, I've was looking at two of the big boys other than MB, both a lot cheaper and both at a quick inspection
looks as though they cover that and no diagnosis cost but both have a small excess of about 50 which is ok.
Thanks

There was a central MB systems problem yesterday morning that meant firmware updates were not really working (you had to retry about 10 times to make them work, doing a DAB module firmware update) - seemed to be working fine after about 3pm when we added CarPlay to a GLE (needs to have COMAND rather than Audio-20).

Cheers

Richard
