Anyone here lock the trigger and get back in their car, If so, watch out for static and touch the body of the car *before* going near the pump as this clip will demonstrate.

In fact, dont lock the trigger at all.

Right click - save as

...[long_nails] + [fiddling_with_jumpers] = [static electricity]...

 she looked like she was trying to blow it out as well  glad she eventually worked out to RUN

I never lock the trigger - mainly coz I've never worked out how to :o

It's lucky that hollywood physics didn't apply here and only the fumes ignited! :)

depends on your car, but normally the circumference of the screw end of the fuel cap is just the right size for sticking in the pump trigger and switching it on to full

soon as the tank is full the pump trips the safety and it stops .

:)

I was requested not to do this at a branch of Sainsbury's. They actually killed the pump (using the override) and then used the tannoy to get my attention.
:(

Something about safety and the safety trip failing.

but then if my tank is empty it trips the pump when half full (depending on what petrol station im at!), then its a painfull tripping fill for the remaining half!

You can't lock the trigger on a UK pump unless you jam something in (Not recommended). It's mainly a US thing, useful when filling a gas guzzling yank tank.

she was brave!

If I were to see flames coming from the tank I'd leg it ASAP!
(I've probably seen too many hollywood movies and pyrotechnics!)

Locking the filler is done by pulling the little lever at the back of the handle when the filler handle is fully depressed, i.e. when the fuel is flowing, and it clips onto a little rivet thing. However, most petrol pumps will not allow you to do this, cause of what you see in the video. Diesel pumps normally allow this. If you look at the back of the filler pump hand grip. you will see a couple of holes. If one of these has a small rivet type thing in it, you can lock the pump. Most lorry drivers will lock the pump to fill their huge fuel tanks. When the tank is full and the fuel cut off clicks, it stops the flow. Hope that is understandable, read it a couple of times, seems to make sense.

Wow!!!!!
what an exceedingly lucky lady. Lucky the fuel had stopped flowing, and so lucky for hair did not ignite. (that just doesn't bear thinking about.

Thank goodness she was not badly burnt.

'Flash'
Flash went the static and whoosh went the flames!!!!

filling wagon

most pumps for wagons allow you to use the trigger but stop after 100 lits you then have to reset

Very few diesels pumps I've found allow you to lock it, most have the latch but have been altered not to lock.

I normally lock the diesel pump when im filling .. even im not brave enough to do the same with the petrol ......
