It's interesting that this has featured on most of the news sites and even in the papers. A guy was killed in very similar circumstances only a couple of months ago but that was in Switzerland rather than the USA so less news-worthy I guess

Large r/c helicopters are certainly not things to be trifled with. There's a huge amount of kinetic energy stored in the main blades, which are often made from carbon fibre. Not nice.

I fly scale heli's and I know a few with bad wounds to arms hands and shins and a couple with a finger missing.
