I've two large rugs surplus to requirements and wondered if I should just roll them out in the garage (currently concrete). They're a tight weave durable surface, as opposed to the deep pile kind.

Will the rugs make the garage a cleaner and more comfortable place to work in, or will the rugs quickly go mouldy only to be thrown away 6 months later?

Alternatively, how about those square carpet tiles used in office?

Chuck the rugs down, preferably after stitching them together, they won't go mouldy unless the garage is very damp.

I have an old bathroom carpet down in my garage and it's still OK after 12 years...well, a bit dirty and burnt...

Carpet is a nice flooring to work on, either standing or lying down.

I've had a chunk of carpet in my garage for a couple of years, it will only go mouldy if your garage is damp.

I used to have an old bit in front of my workbench, helped keep the feet warmer in winter when the concrete was cold.

Nail them to the wall, so if you open a car door too wide it won't damage the paintwork.

my thoughts exactly
I have carpet nailed to the walls in my garage !
i thought i was mad till i read this:thumb:

I used an old draylon bed head for this! Works a treat, before that I had table felt nailed to the wall.

As above, I have carpets in the front part of the garage in the work area. Its kinder to old bones.

My garage is carpeted and heated by central heating piping in winter no problems in 2 years :thumb:

I've had carpet in my garage for a while, better than lying on concrete when I'm faffing about with something under the car.

Also put strips of carpet across the bottom of the garage door in an attempt to seal the garage from dust, leaves etc being blown in and it is also pretty effective at stopping crawling insects getting in.

I put a carpet in mine.

Swiftly followed by a sofa, TV and fridge.

Now I can polish the car, watch TV and have a beer all at the same time.

Life doesn't get much better.

Hi

Bucking the trend here... Took my carpet out and epoxy sealed/painted the floor.
Having a large double garage when maneuvering the car into its parking spot using lock to lock steering the front wheels would pull up the carpet.
Plus it was a nightmare to keep clean and smell free, especially if you spill something... normally paint or oil

I also didn't feel too safe using a trolley jack on a carpeted floor as it prevented the jack from rolling to compensate for the car going up.

You're not meant to use shag pile.

I'm trying to decide what to do for the best in my double garage. Did you do it yourself or get someone in? What did it cost? What did you use? Any tips?

I have carpet tiles in mine...PITA when you drive over them...but I rarely have the car in the garage. They do keep the dust down...and its more comfortable.
