    Greetings, Citizens.

I love the MOT history checker & use it all the time. It's got to be one of the most useful things for checking out "potential purchases", how did we live without it?

But it has other uses as well, such as amusement. For some reason today I was reminded of a car I used to own back in the last century - a Toyota Supra Turbo like this:

Bought second-hand (at about 8 years old if memory serves correctly), and not one of my better buying decisions as it turned out. After a couple of months the head gasket went which resulted in a £700 bill from the local dealership, as it was a 14 hour job involving removing the turbo. Meh.

Feeling poor but encouraged, I took to the road again only for the gasket to blow a second time 4 months later. Fortunately it was still under warranty from Toyota so I didn't have to cough up twice. The garage had a good poke around, found the head was slightly warped and offered me a choice: either I could pay to have the head skimmed, which might fix it or might make it worse, or "we can bolt the head down as hard as it'll go and you can sell it quickly". To my shame, I chose option 2, and sold the car to someone who thankfully lived a very long way away .

Anyway, as I mentioned earlier for some reason it sprang to mind today, and as I could still remember the registration number I punched the details into the MOT website for the hell of it. Amazingly, the thing still lives! It's had a period off the road (laid up in 2009, apparently) and appears to have had a haircut along the way, losing 30K miles in the process, but it passed an MOT last June, albeit with a bunch of advisories. Way to go, money pit.

To be fair, it was a nice car when it was running properly, a bit big but quick for its time and no slouch even today. 0-60 in about 6 and a half and 140+ top speed, still respectable. Chest wig and medallion were optional, before anyone starts.

So, who else can track down something from the past that should, by rights, be dead and buried? Answers on a postcard etc..

    Cheers,

    Gaz

Mmm. I recall that Danny La Rue had a Supra!

My second-ever car, bought when I was a schoolboy in 1971 for £47.50 and kept for just over a year, was a Bond, KHF 754. I sold it for £46.50 - and thought I'd done well.

I saw it for sale, 2 years ago, for £2,800. I didn't buy it, but it sold on to a dealer, who then got £5,000.

My old 2004 RX8 is still on the road. Really surprised as it needed an engine rebuild when I got rid !

A couple of years after it left me, I discovered my Fiat Bravo was still on the road.

This was quite concerning, seeing as it was a total loss write off - the front end wasn't attached anymore after being T-boned by an MGF that ran a junction at quite some rate. It only lasted a year or so before being scrapped

My old G reg Golf convertible that i sold 13 years ago is still being looked after, i keep an eye on it and it only gets taxed during the summer months. Glad someone is looking after it. I'd love it back so keep an eye on various classifieds in case it ever pops up.

Great idea, but for me annoyingly I can't remember the plates and passed on or ditched the paperwork :-(

Mind you, I had a fair few bangers in the early days, so I'm sure those have all been cubed and recycled!

I've checked the last two of mine, theRav-4 rollerboot and the Scimitar. It seems neither are on the road. The Peugeot 106 I had briefly from new I can't remember the reg of, sadly. I keep my cars a long time... I just need to check the Toyota little thing I had before the Toyota. I've never really been happy without a classic of its type. The Rav was wonderful, I loved it and took it off road when working on the Isle of Mann. The Honda is a lovely, warm couch. The Merc is lots of fun!

Sold a green SAAB 9000 CDE with 145000 miles in 2001. Last year was filling up in in a town about 20 miles away when into the forecourt drove the old girl. She was nearly white with haze but looked ok otherwise. Had a chat with the fella who was driving her and he told me he bought it about 6 years ago and runs her everyday even uses her about the farm. The straw all over the rear seats confirmed that. Engine was still purring with 235000 miles on the clock.

Can't recall many plates but the 1978 Alfasud Sprint that I bought in 1983 and sold in 1985 only lasted two more years :-(

The 86 Alfa 33 I bought in 89 lasted an impressive 14 years

The 2000 C43 that I bought in 2003 and sold in 2006 to the guy that ran the workshop in BSG at the time is still taxed. Quite surprised as last time I looked it was having lots of welding done (the site used to show reasons for MOT failures).

I sold the 96 200SX that preceded it locally and used to see regularly passed away in 2011 :-(

My 1977 Lancia Beta Montecarlo is still going strong - great to see that. Looks like the old Beta Coupe IE fell by the wayside though....and the Capri 2.8i is still going too. Wow. Can't recall any other plates at the moment.

My old 420 SL is still on the road - I sold it back in 2003 - it's covered another 20,000 miles since then. Now at 116000.

My 230SLK bought new in 1999 is also still going at 133,000 miles though seems to fail the MOTin style each year.
