Hi all,

Merry Christmas to all in advance, and I hope you all have a good time over the festive period as I will ;)

I was wondering if I could pick your brains for a while? Are there any Carsoft guru's out there?

The story goes... I had a problem with my SRS light on my W203 (yr 2000) permanently on, so I got myself a Multiplexer which works with Carsoft to help remedy this. Carsoft diagnostic revealed too many faults on the front and rear SAM's that you could shake a $h1tty stick at! But I cleared all those and all is fine.

I could't however, make the SRS light go off, even after Carsoft had erased all errors in the Airbag system memory! It still remained on and all the diagnostic I did on the Airbag system gave me this information:

----------------------------------------------------------
Single Diagnostic AIRBAG - Status ERROR!

Module: AIRBAG
MB Nr: 001 820 97 26
H/W Ver: 09/99
S/W Ver: 42/99
Diag Rec: 00/00

B1039 Ignition Circuit Rear Left Sidebag :> Ohm (Open Circuit)
-> Verify the wiring, connections and control unit.
-> Possible short circuit to terminal 31, 30, 15, 15R.
-> The Isolation resistance of the ignition circuit should be > 20 Ohm.
- And the resistance of the wire should be between 2-5 Ohm.

B107C The communication with the TELE AID control unit is disturbed or cable error.

B103B Ignition Circuit Rear Right Sidebag :> Ohm (Open Circuit)
-> Verify the wiring, connections and control unit.
-> Possible short circuit to terminal 31, 30, 15, 15R.
-> The Isolation resistance of the ignition circuit should be > 20 Ohm.
- And the resistance of the wire should be between 2-5 Ohm.

- Single diagnosis completed!
----------------------------------------------------------

I have a pretty good idea that I need to check the wiring somewhere and possibly that there is some module within the Air-bag system that could be faulty? Can anyone please give a more detailed explanation of what I need to do to rectify these errors and if anyone has a list of Carsoft error codes that may help now and in the future, I would be greatly appreciative.

Thanks guy's.

Andy...

I use Carsoft and find sometimes that it does throw up the odd problem regarding erasing faults.

Get the car put on a Star machine.

Forgive the obvious questions but does your car actually have rear left and right sidebags? Tele-aid is mercedes emergency automatic call up device. It will automatically call their aid centre in the event of any of the airbags being triggered so is linked to the SRS SYSTEM. I didn't think it was fitted to UK cars? Maybe the carsoft software is expecting devices that are just not present and maybe needs to be more accurately specified for your car. Maybe only then will it clear the fault codes and indicator?

Thanks fella's..

Yes it does have rear left and right sidebags just above the head-rests in the roof lining, at least theres a SRS badge there like over the other airbags. Mmm, Tele-aid! Good point you bring up. In the Airbag coding, the readout showed that the front and rear airbags are fitted and the emergency "something or other" is also fitted! Maybe that's the problem there for that then? I will re-code and see.

Thanks boys.. Anyone else have other thoughts, please add..

Cheers..

I wonder if the "rear airbags" you refer to are the curtain airbags. I have a feeling the rear side airbags are in the rear doors and are an option on the early cars- standard on the later facelifted models?? your vehicle data sheet should tell if they are fitted along with the tele-aid If you key in your VIN here it should tell you http://old.mbclub.ru/mb/vin/view.html?lng=eng Hope some early w203 owners might jump in here.

Thanks again grober,

I followed your advice and got all the details of my motor from that site. There was no entry for the rear airbags or Emergency System on the list whatsoever! You were right, the airbags I did refer to must have been the curtain airbags! They sit in the roof lining above the headrests and not in the doors. There is no SRS emblem on my rear doors, so no airbags! Duhh!!

Also I read the codes again from the airbag module and got the following info:

Vehicle: "RHD"
Emergency System Built in: "Yes"
Rear Airbag Built in: "Yes"

Well, I re-coded the module to "RHD", "No" and "No", then cleared all the faults from the airbag module. I then re-did the airbag diagnostic and "hey presto", no recorded faults and also the main reason for Carsoft, my SRS warning light had now been taken off!

:bannana:

Today I am quite a happy chappy :)

So thanks again for everyones comments. It was much appreciated...

Just need further experience now in the use of and any other info anyone can throw my way in regards to using Carsoft and the worlds a better place.. With me and my motor at least...

Merry christmas everyone... :D

SRS Faults

I'm afraid I can't help with any of your faults, but I'm hoping that you won't mind if I jump on board of this thread.
I bought an old 2001 C220 Diesel on Monday. I noticed that the SRS light was on. The guy that I bought it from said that it doesn't always come on, and that it would probably go off again. Being new to Mercedes cars, I believed him. I noticed also that the kick down on the auto box sometimes didn't work.
I took it to a mechanic today, who although was not a Mercedes mechanic, but said that he had a code reader that would tell me the faults. The first thing he said was that he had never seen so many faults on one car. When he checked the reader, it showed 32 faults in the SRS system. I've just got to find them all now and don't really know where to start. He did say, that one fault could well be causing all the others. So I intend to start by checking all the underseat connections, and then all the seatbelt connections. Hopefully I will find something there. He also diagnosed an EEGR fault. I saw in the service history that the Mass Air Sensor had been replaced last July, so didn't really suspect that. When we looked at the EEGR in the engine compartment, we noticed a small hose that had come off. We simply pushed it back on, and that was that fault cleared. The kick down now works fine.
I would be very grateful for any suggestions on where to start.
P.S. I live in Portchester near Portsmouth and also travel up the A3 to Bordon every day. So any local indys would be great if anyone knows of any.
Thanks
Ade
