I went to the casino for the first time last night.

Loved it!

Only lost £20. But on the blackjack table I was on most of the night, there was a woman who brought £40 to the table about 1am.

She bet on perfect pairs and obviously playing the hand. in her first 5 hands, she got 4 perfect pairs. at odds of 30-1. So £5 on perfect pairs was giving her £150 a time.

I walked away from the table at 2:30am. She had well over £1000. I was impressed. But not as impressed as when I walked past every chinese man in there, with his HUGE bundle of money. I was at the cashier and a chinese guy, no older than 21, came up next to me and went, can I change these chips into cash please, had a quick look over, he had 10, £500 chips. I was like "ohh good night then?" and he replied "na, only won a few grand" ....

Casinos are built on losers money. Just remember that and don't let a gambling addiction take hold and spoil a great night.

Take what you can afford to SPEND. Never class your entertainment as losing.

Saying that, glad you had a fun night and found a woman with a perfect pair ;)

Very bad habbit Deano,don`t start

I know a few people who like to gamble and they all seem to have one common trait. They love to tell you whenever they've had a win but go very quiet and omit to mention the many other times that they've lost. A mugs game.

Once in a while my family (parents, aunt, uncles etc) host a poker party. Everyone puts in £10 and we play until one winner takes all. Great fun and all for not much money. However I think social poker amongst friends and family is quite different to poker in casinos.

Bet what you're prepared to loose.

It does not always end that easy as is very addictive
Many moons ago I sold my car 8 times than bought it back for more money :doh:

I thought you were too young for a casino???

i used to have a friend who (like his father) was a notorious gambler, and despite being perilously close to bankruptcy would happily bet his entire bonus on something about which he knew very little. He explained it was the pure thrill that got him, the large size of the stake and its importance to him making it even more thrilling.

Steer well clear.

Only winners in the long term are either the bookies or the casino owners.

It sounds quite fun, mystery women with luck and stacks of chips, curiously flush foreign gentlemen lurking.

At £20 it sounds a bargain, at forty quid for the evening I wouldn't be so sure. Maybe the once.

Perhaps you should think yourself lucky that you made a loss. The people that do well on the first visit are more likely to lose long term because they go back.

Vegas next?

I take a certain amount of cash (Whatever I can afford to lose) leave my card at home, take no extra cash.

Once it's gone, it's gone. Theres no more.

And the taxman, many years ago the local casino used to pay something like £100k tax per roulette table per annum.

When you consider that they are frequented by the owners of cash-rich businesses (such as take-aways, window cleaners, milk roundsmen etc) is probably only fair.

You walk into a casino with an amount of money, and leave with a different amount - it's a dodgy accountant's dream.

If casinos weren't a huge money earner for their owners, they would exist, and wouldn't be so plush and comfortable. They say there's no such thing as a poor bookie, and the reasons are the odds are stacked against you.

If you want to see flash, try the place on Casino Square in Monte Carlo - people gambling thousands for fun.

(Also, while you're there - check out the exotica parked outside the Hotel de Paris opposite!)

My family on my fathers side were big, big gamblers. The horses being the main subject.

My grandfather and his brothers were notorious around the north London area in the forties and fifties and went as far as gambling away property, buisenesses and cars.

The trend has seemed to come to a halt with my cousin who visits Vegas twice a year and has done for about twenty years.

He takes 5-7000 pounds on each visit and doesn't mind blowing the lot, it's part of the 'fun' to him.

He is also 45 years old, lives at home with his mum and hasn't got a pot to urinate in.

I can't see the point to be honest.

Have not been in a bookes for years and never been in a casino.
A guy once told me to look at the amount of "paying in" windows to the "paying out" windows that did it for me.

Buying cars on ebay is similar to betting. Ive had good days and some really bad days!

I wonder how many of those who criticise the OP of going into a casino do the lottery or football pools ? ?
Not really any different in principle.
Its all PROBABLY a waste of your money - bit POTENTIALLY you could be a winner.
As my son-in-law to be calls the lottery - voluntary taxation.
Personally I don't do any of it - but many do enjoy a flutter.
Providing nobody loses out because of it, then its all part of what makes the world go round.

Its all good as long as you class it as entertainment and are willing to spend that amount on entertainment.
I am not so dont gamble at all but almost all of my friends do occasionally and its great fun to watch.
Its just another way to spend an evening out...

Been in there twice - only casino I've ever been to and the only reason was that we had "free" chips as part of the deal Mrs E had out together for us on the trip.

Found it one of the most depressing and unappealling places ever... didn't see anyone having fun, even the one flashing the €5k chips.

I stuck all my chips on one number at roulette first time we went and got nothing. Did the same the following year and won. Paid for the evening's cocktails in the Cafe de Paris. Have given it a miss ever since.

I've been in a Casino many hundreds of times!!!!!!!!!! However I was on the other side of the table and believe me the chinese guy cashing in £5k of chips has lost many more thousands before winning that. The Chinese were notorious for shutting the restaurant / take away emptying the till and coming into the casino only to lose the lot. :wallbash:

You may not have noticed but look how often Chinese takeaways change hands, it's a lot more than most other equivalent businesses.

Only the casino and the taxman win consistently. :D
