cat removal

I have a clk 55 amg (208), which has 4 cats. When I replaced the two front cats, (one was rattling) the garage said I could take out the two rear cats as the front two would be sufficient. He said that originally when emission standards were set, they were too high and most cars couldn't reach them, so they were lowered. He said my car would still meet the emissions standards so I took them out and got a healthy 10-15% hp improvement. So it is theoretically ok for yours, but as the previous succint post stated, you will have to ensure you still pass the emissions standard for your car.

thanks for that, i think i will go for removal of them.

i wouldn't mind trying the cut them open approach, got to be worth ago

The bottom once are made of ceramic,, this is a soft crumbly substance.

Just cut through 3 ½ sides with an angle grinder and bend the piece out of the way and the CAT will just break up and come out, push back the cut out bit and weld up.

You could sell the old CATs

No need to take off the car it so easy to do on the car and take under an hour including welding up,, I am sure that the car is more lively
