I have been experiencing the cattle grid effect since I have changed my radiator. Feared the worse !!

But I had the car up on ramps this weekend to inspect my drop links. Found a twisted gearbox fluid pipe ( see pic )

Lesson learned

Something I did I'm afraid.

What damage could this have caused?

The radiator is the cooling circuit for the gearbox. Overheating the friction a material could be catastrophic.

The fluid does smell a bit burned.

Gear box still operates sweet. Fluid change on the cards.

Fingers crossed. But did find my drop links are shot too lol

I'm unsure of the history, but it did cross my mind seeing the white corrosion. Could be salt ???

Salt can also come from gritting...

And burnt smell could simply mean that the ATF needs changing, it's quite common for it to smell burnt when long overdue (I.e. not necessarily direct result of overheating).

Looks like the bank balance is about to take a battering.

Screwdrivers at the ready !

If I'm removing the drop links do I have to use spring clamps, or can I get away with it ???

When they are off the car you will. But to remove the strut from the car you don't need any.

Will let you know how many fingers I loose the weekend lol
