Well... can someone explain to me what is up with all them codes on Merc CD-Changers? I know mine is A 002 820 79 89. Is there additional code for it? I found replacements on ebay with additional codeing like:
MC3198, MH3512, MC3010, MC3111, MC3330, MC3520.

What is all about it if I would like to get replacement? Is there range for specific range or they all fit?

Anyone?? Come on??

Is there specific number to specific W2xx model number? Is there a lot of differences between models?

There are 2 technologies, MOST and D2B. Your car is D2B.

There are 2 types, the cartridge type and the single-din with 1 slot where you feed in CDs. The single slot type is only MOST.

Of the cartridge type D2B changers, there are 2 sizes, the newer one got slightly smaller. W210 is the larger kind, but smaller one will go in with some longer screws and washers.

Of the cartridge type D2B changers there are versions with different internal memory sizes as they buffer some music so they can retry reading the data after they have skipped as you went over a big bump. ML (4WD) got the type with more memory.

With both types of MOST changer there are variants that support MP3 playback and variants that do not.

I don't know how the MC/MH part numbers work, apart from I guess each type above has a different one.

MH3512 = MOST single DIN single slot CD changer (dunno whether this is MP3 or not)
MC3330 = MOST cartridge changer. The one of these I have is part nr A220 827 46 42

I hope that helps

Also

MC3198 = D2B - I think this is the original larger size
MC3010 = D2B - pretty sure this is the smaller size type.
MC3011 = D2B - I think this is the one with the bigger memory
MC3520 = MOST cartridge changer.

One more thing as I started to go thru those models. D2B models - are there interchangable between each other? Does it mean that if car is fitted with fibre link any of those will work??

Any D2B changer will work in a D2B car. Any MOST changer will work in a MOST car.

The only issues are physical mounting as some are different shapes and thus brackets may not be available.

You can put the W163 ML (D2B) changer in the other D2B cars, the extra memory is good rather than bad.

When installing remember all the cartridge based changers have settings on the side to set whether they are installed horizontal or vertical. If you get those wrong they will skip tracks
