It had to happen some day I suppose.

The internal CD drive in my COMAND unit won't work. It won't allow a disc to go in and the last time one ejected it made a loud 'click' and a 'clackety' whirr.

I've still got the 6CD in the boot so music won't be a problem.

However, the Nav function will not work.

I have two options - fix the head unit or buy a standalone Sat Nav.

The questions are :

1. How much would a fix to the head unit cost ?
2. Any W220 owners use a standalone unit ? I know that the Road Angel units won't work due to the double glazing etc.

Hi, I had a similar issue on my GL with the dvd drive dying - ended up replacing the entire command system (under warranty) with a new one. But got bored of the merc system so upgraded the whole thing to a Alpine double din head unit, with speakers and sounds to match. Much much better than getting a new command system...

Hello Steven, Bugger!. If you decide on a standalone I purchased an aerial from Roadangel for my speed alert. small as a lighter with very fine wire. stickypad onto window behind the mirror. wire just pushes in the trim all the way to the bottom of the winscreen at the drivers side. Hope this helps.

Ask Alfie / Richard from Comand.co.uk if they can repair. Or there are companies who advertise comand repair services on ebay, search for 'comand repair'.

is there not a little window in the glass for satnavs etc to "see through"??

i'd prefer to fix the unit. It could be really simple, down to a broken rubber band or something inside.

where's your screwdriver set?
