New member here. I've just bought a new 2019 C63 coupe (the non-S) version. I was having a chat to the Celtic Tuning folk and they mentioned that they're not aware of Mercedes dealers in the UK noticing that the stage-1 remap has been done.

Anyone have anymore info on this? If I do the remap, is the dealer likely to pick it up and give me warranty-related issues?

To be fair they're not likely to say otherwise.

2 other good tuning firms highly recommended on Mercedes forums ,
MSL and GAD.
Have a word with them. :)

Mercedes can detect if the engine ECU has been remapped despite what Celtic may say. Only if you should be unlucky enough to have an engine related repair that required warranty work done would a problem occur I would imagine.

As an aside, if you are considering a remap I would look closely at MSL Performance (they have an East London branch)DMS Automotive in Southampton and GAD in Essex. All knowledgeable companies for remapping AMG's.

Insurance is perhaps a bigger issue, you need to declare the modification or the car may be uncovered and assessors will take any excuse not to pay out!

GAD tuning maps are covered by their insurance should any engine issues arise. A phone call to them would clear up any hesitancy in having your car mapped, the 4.0 Biturbo responds very well!

First off, thank you everyone for the informative replies. Much appreciated - lively community this is.

I will check them out, thanks

Indeed, this is something I will investigate. I'd thought of this already as most policies have an exclusion to this effect.

Why remap? Do you need the extra power? Wait for a couple of months and see how you get on. Are you a professional driver?

Absolutely do not need. In fact, nobody "needs" the power in the stock engine. It's already ludicrous. But it's so much fun. I want many things I don't really need, and the ecu remap is really quite cheap for the extra power it unlocks.

Would be interested in which way you go, I have been thinking about doing my C63 (non a)

DMS do look like a good option and they have a great rep. Interested in the GAD insurance, can anyone expand on this?

Also does anyone know of any issues with these engines? I know the F8x M cars have a potential weakness in the crank hub, just wondered if there was anything with the 4.0 v8

OP, have a drive out to see the guys at GAD. Nice people, good facilities and will make you feel welcome.

The road out there is worth a drive as well :thumb:

Keep us posted on where you go with this. I have a 18 c63 non s and ponder a remap, but in the main come to the conclusion I don’t need the power and can do without the doubt around warranty. This said it’s always in the back of the mind to get a map. I would say this car can’t put down the power it has already let alone more! But that’s never stopped anyone!

As said, if merc really want to see if the cars been mapped it’s all there the engine data. It can’t be hidden. Hopefully you’ll never need to worry about it, and may get lucky that they don’t look for it if you have an issue, but then that's the gamble.

GAD would be most local to me so maybe I should swing in, or maybe I just shouldn’t !

My pal local to me has had stage 2 work done on his S and my god it sounds absolutely brutal, I have also heard Tim (shakes) car in person and that sounded amazing just from the map! Well worth it

Sound, crackle and pops is one of the main reasons a map appeals. What difference to sounds /crackles & pops does a remap make to a c63?

On a 204, improved throttle response, speed delimited, +60-70hp

On a 205, I’m not sure on the actual figures. Crackles and pops on a 204 sound silly but on a 205 with downpipes the whole thing sounds immense

Hi,
I have a 2016 W205 C63 and was also looking at Celtic. One thing recommended to me was to make sure your engine software is fully up to date before having the remap. My vehicle is on a MB service plan and part of the servicing covers FOC software updates. If MB need to update the engine software the mapping will be lost.

I imagine that any 'insurance' provided by the tuner, means that it will pay-out in case of engine damage caused by the mod.

I doubt that it will automatically pay-out for any warranty repair claim rejected by the car manufacturer, for the simple reason that the manufacturer might reject an engine-related warranty claim simply because the engine has been modified, even if the damage can't be traced directly to the mod.

And I am pretty sure it won't pay-out in the event that your insurer refuses to pay for accident repair because they say that the undeclared mods invalidated your policy....

Is this part of your standard Service Care Plan cover, or a goodwill gesture by your local dealer? And is your car still under manufacturer warranty?

The reason for asking is that I have a Service Care Plan for my (non-AMG) W204, but MB Brooklands charge me separately for software updates every time they service the car under the plan (I always ask them to scan with STAR and update at least the engine and transmission software, if newer version is available).

They only charge me £55 for this, so won't break the bank, but it would be good to know how you managed to get it done for free :thumb:
