1998 C Class 200 sport saloon auto.

Just started having a problem of all indicators constantly flashing rapidly when lock the car either with remote key or manually.

Rear interior light comes and stays on and all indicators flash constantly.

Can't even leave unlocked temporarily as car auto locks itself and then starts to flash again!!!

Gonna have to disconnect battery overnight until know what prob is.

Any ideas???

Random problems with the alarm/locking and cruise control are often the first warning signs that the battery is on its way out.

Thanks.

Hopefully that simple!!!

Short of buying a new battery and finding it's not that, any ways of checking that out?

Sorry if daft question, but I am a mechanical numpty!!!

The fact that read interior light stays on would lead me to suspect the rear door switches - mine does similar if one of the doors isn't shut properly when I try to lock it

OK...getting more confusing.

Have discovered that I can now lock all doors and boot except the drivers door without the lights flashing.

I have to lock car as normal.......the flashing starts......then unlock the car (set so only drivers door unlocks on 1st press of key fob)....flashing stops......then strangely if I open the boot with the key and then just push it shut, the alarm/central system does not automatically re-set!!???

So I have a car with 3 doors and boot locked, but drivers side unlocked!

Rear interior light goes out after few seconds, so don't think it's a door switch problem.

Any other ideas??

Hi, My C280 did very similar thing last week. Cure was to have it put on Star which came up with faulty o/s/r door switch and fault with alarm siren. Had switch replaced and my Indy bypassed siren and alarm now sounds from car horn. Good luck

The alarm fault is happening really often I was told on the star. Mine was the same. Non coded or faulty it says. I had a door switch faulty ( well, the door wasn't closing properly for the switch to be activated) and I replace the PSE pump, all is OK now, siren OK.
Perhaps only the switch on your side will have done the job without rerouting the alarm.
Might be the same for the poster. Check all switch and or PSE pump?

So apart from an expensive trip to the stealerships.....who could I expect to have a STAR machine?

Is it a MB thing or is it generic to any manufacturers vehicles that a general mechanics might have?

How much is it roughly to have it tested at a MB centre?

I think a dealer would charge about £80 + VAT for the diagnostic plus further £'s forwhatever they have to do afterwards. My Indy charges about £40 or £50 for the diagnostic. My total bill including diagnostic, new pin switch, rerouting to horn plus collection / delivery to my home was £80.50 including VAT. I think this very reasonable. You need to find a good independant Merc specialist. Mine's no good to you as he's in Birmingham. Maybe others on this forum can recommend someone closer to you. Please let us know how you get on.
