Right! I'm having problems with the central locking on a 1995 C180 Sport, I have posted on another forum but this one seems a bit more popular so hopefully will have more luck!
Basically it is working fine from the button on the dash, but not from the fob. I've replaced the batteries and had to re-solder the button onto the fob (single button flip key.) and it is emitting an IR signal, i've tried all kinds of ways of resynching the fob but with no luck! :(

The thing is... i found this little box of tricks bouncing round in the glove box? i've been told it's just for the immobiliser and not the central locking but any more help/suggestions would be greatly apppreciated!! :)

Not sure, but I always thought Laserline only did alarms and were an aftermarket item not OE.

Test your key fob to see if it is working properly.
Was that ever wired up?

yeah the fob is working fine, new batteries and IR signal can be seen. The unit was in the glove box when i got the car, i just presumed it was part of the alarm system that had been bypassed for some reason?

Most of the cars from that era came with Scorpion alarms that were fitted by the dealer, the were after market alarms and not Mercedes factory fitted alarms.

Is there a working alarm fitted in the car at the moment, you will have to search for a siren, perhaps under bonnet and a electrical plug that doesn’t seem to fit anywhere.

When the car is locked with the key fob the alarm is also armed, as your central locking isn’t working from the key fob then the alarm…if fitted… isn’t being armed. The dashboard central locking switch wouldn’t arm the alarm.

If there isn’t already an alarm in the car then it is possible that someone removed the original alarm… if one was fitted…and replaced it with the one that you have pictured above. It is obvious someone has now taken it out and in the process messed up the wiring resulting in your central locking now not working from the key fob.

A car alarm installer may be able to correct the fault, everything else seems to be working ok, i.e. central locking and key fob… its just that the central locking won’t work from the key fob.

Have you tried the passenger door lock… may be hidden under a plastic bung….the key should be able to make a quarter turn in the lock, to the left or right, on some cars the passenger door locks also operate the central locking and on some cars the don’t.
