I'm looking for a control unit / vacuum pump for a 1999-2001 SLK (200 or 230)

part numbers:
170 8000 548 or 170 8000 648

It sits in the boot, behind the drivers wheel.

If I pay the postage, is there any chance of borrowing the old one so that I can do a write up on them, plus it may be repairable

I'm sure it is repairable, but I don't know where I'd find someone capable of and willing to do it. There are no obviously damaged components, but something is gone.

I've rung dozens of breakers yards, and keep a close eye on ebay, but no luck yet.
Someone is selling the exact part I need on ebay Austria, but it's dead too.

My Pump failed on my 91 300sl took the unit apart and found that the pump motor brushes were faulty. Unable to buy just the motor( relitivly cheap 12volt DC motor with none replaceable brushes as used to power model cars etc) so had to buy the whole unit at about £300.

just a little tip, i have taken them apart, hairdryed the units and resealed with good success....

Hi guys,

I had tried the hair-dryer approach, getting the PCB properly cleaned, etc., but this was a serious case of corrosion. No easy fix.

I got one from the dealer in the end - no success with second-hand MB parts suppliers or ebay. I had others like my friend above who claimed to have one for sale but either didn't or refused to to messages. (Hence my annoyance.)

But I have one bit of useful info to add -

Parts 170 800 08 48 or 170 800 06 48 are direct replacements for 170 800 05 48 - just plug-in and go.
