Centre console storage W211

Hi All

The compartment that can be fitted with a cup holder, has a push release mechanism on the lid, which is currently not pushing or realising unless you use both hands and jiggle it about. I can't really see how it works. Can anuone tell me how to fix the problem?

I've been into a Merc specialist, who said the whole centre console needs to be removed to gain access to the mechanism. Is this correct?

If you can see the latch when its open, that changes over from push-pull a little silicon spray on it could fix it, these things use hair springs and are very sensitive
