My CGI 350 has never lost a drop of coolant in five years, about 3 months ago I fitted a new thermostat, so I had to take the main outlet hose from the stat housing. After refitting, no leaks, no problems for three months until yesterday when I put my foot down out of a 30 limit onto an empty NSL road, and after it hit 60 or so, I noticed a cloud in the mirror behind me. It turned out to be coolant and when I opened the bonnet, I found the main outlet hose had popped out and emptied the cooling system into the engine bay.
The hose was undamaged, the fitting and o-ring are fine, the spring clip is present. I can find no fault, other than it isn’t connected. I refitted the hose connection and put the spring clip in place, and it is solid, won’t pull out, won’t leak even at full temperature and high revs.
But why did it pop out???
