Any guidance on changing door handle leds would be really helpful!!

Hi - new member here. I have an S205 C220D love it. Had a Mercedes C class a few years ago but have been in Audi world - latest was an S4 Avant that was stolen... so changed to a Mercedes.

It's a great car and really lovely to drive... but... 3 of the four doorhandle LED's have gone... it's 3.5 years old with 21k on the clock. Seems dreadful to have this sort of failure rate. I 'chatted' online to Mercedes to ask them whether they would replace these with some element of goodwill - that was a week ago. Despite taking a million and one contact details I haven't heard back.

My question is - how old was your car that Esplanade fixed?

Would really like these sorted as I quite like the one that works, but not happy about spending a lot of money sorting... £60 seems OK.

Thanks in advance, Matthew

Hi Matthew

I posted an account of how to fix the lights in The thread listed below. Read through and you will see what a faff.

Thanks Farmer boy - looks a mare... brilliant post though and I suspect that I might have a go if Mercedes don't play ball... Fortunately I've already shelled out for a torx set for another faffy job (don't get me started on Dysons!).

Really appreciate the time to point me in the right direction. M

Go to your local Mercedes dealer and ask them about replacement, especially if it has full MB service history.

Thanks - I am hoping that they decide to do the right thing. My new (secondhand) car does have full MBSH and I intend to continue to get it serviced with them.

Hi, the link just goes round in circles when I click on it, it takes me back to the start of the thread. How do I open the link ?

Hi Sheffield Col

if you search for posts by Farmer boy then pick the One about GLC exterior handle LED colour you will find a long account of how to do the rear handles along with some pics within the thread.
In my first posting I had the part code the same for both the left and right side of the car I added the correct code in a later post. MB Newcastle sell the parts on EBay, the price is good and postage fast. Don’t pay silly prices for the part.

Has anyone done a DIY for the front LEDs?

Thanks, M

The process for the front led's is basically the same as the rear's apart from you have to loosen 2 screws instead of 1 to release the glass from the winder mechanism & removal of the exterior handle on the drivers side is slightly different. Both processes can be found on Ytube.

Thanks - I was wondering if that was the case.

Two questions then on this (having viewed some of the YouTube material) is it worth just taping the glass up in the door as per the rear's rather than removing completely (to lessen the chance of it being damaged). And, do you need to completely disconnect the electical connections into the door (near the A pillar) or can the winder mechanism be removed out of the way sufficiently to do the replacement without a complete disconnect - again I see this as a way of lessening potential breakages etc.

Many thanks, M

Hi C220dLondon.
You need to lower the window to access the two torax bolts holding the front glass. Then with the glass loose pull it to the top of the frame and hold it in place. with strong tape. The passenger window position can be adjusted by the driver side switch unit. On the drivers side you need to keep the door card wires attached till you can see the bolts.
I found that you do not need to disconnect the main wire harness to the dopr so long as you use tape/ bungee cords to support the black inner shell and motor.
As you say these work around reduce the risk of damage.
It’s a real faff but satisfying when done.

Thanks mate, really appreciate it. I might set about one door this weekend as a trial!
