Hi All
2008 e class 280 w211
I know there are many posts re transmission oil change, however I would be grateful for any help.
Been quoted between £300 and £400 for this job by MB Newbridge.
1 Do you think this is reasonable?
2 Any suggestions re alternative garage to get quote in central Scotland area.
3 How difficult is this to do yourself, has anyone done it themselves?

I am reasonably handy re car repairs etc but reading about this change looks over the top to me.

Hi there its easy the only pain is lying under the car unless you have a ramp! We can all dream. My only problem was one of my bolts sheared so was a nightmare drilling it out when lying under there. As for price it seams a bit steep to me as oil and filter and gasket for mine was only £90 from dealer so all genuine parts! That's a lot for labour! Must be thinking it will take them 3 to 4 hours! If all goes well I'd say hour and half max. If you do go for it yourself make sure you give athe bolts a good spray with wd40 a few days before to let it work and torque bolts back upto 8nm.Carl.

Expensive compared with an Indy.

Have no idea about Edinburgh. Various options in Glasgow. I go to T J O'Neill in Carntyne. Others have used MB Independent Specialist in Ibrox. A bit further west there is Merparts in Port Glasgow.

Your car, im guessing will have a 7 speed box in it unlike streethawks car. so it is a slightly different method to replace the oil and filter. The MB price doesnt seem to steep but an indy will most definately be cheaper. Also i wouldnt attempt to do it yourself on the drive.

Yes it is the 7 speed auto box and would not try it on my drive either.
However do have a large garage so car could be kept level and off the floor for unlimited time.

Ah sorry for wrong advice did not know it was a different trans but hey you know what its about now! Still be cheaper at indy.

Have read up as much as i can on this and have now ordered all the bits. fluid, gasket, filter, new pan bolts, new torque converter plug, adapter, stand pipe 28mm socket etc etc.
Have decided to fill using the adapter, hose and gravity rather than a pump. Will also check the 45 deg C temp with an ordinary rototherm thermometer.
Will post details and photos when completed either successful or not.

Very successful all done (see post and photo's).
Also found out that it is only recently MB changed their work instructions to include draining the torque converter in the transmission oil change!!!!
If this is correct what a waiste of time and money just changing half the ATF as almost 1/2 is in the torque converter.
Can anyone verify this info or reject it?
