I have a new plate to fit as the old one is looking tatty.

It sits in a holder, pictured below.

Can anyone tell me specifically how the holder comes apart before I try to find out for myself?

And yes, I know the car needs a clean ;).

Yep, you need to release the clips on either side, then the top will hinge up and the bottom hinges down.

Small flatheads should do it, or similar object. Maybe even the ends of a small zip tie etc.

As above, once you pop the clips apart the top part folds up, then the bottom folds down.

Evun though I are an engineer I thought it better to enquire from those that had actually done it.

Great, thanks :thumb:

Try poking a small screw driver into those holes. Even if it doesn'y work you will have fulfilled that boyhood passion for poking things into holes.

How the forum speaks from experience..........;)

First off, you'll need a chainsaw...

Got those plate holders fitted to my car John.

There should be a little tool that comes with it for 'insertion'!

However it doesn't work too well as I played with mine on my desk before fitting as it looked iffy from the off.

Best way is to prise the the top flap outwards using a medium flat blade screwdriver from the side of the holder whilst poking two terminal drivers in the two slots.

You won't break it as the plastic is very hard but malable.

Job done - all of about 1 minute.

I used a flat blade on the plate between to two holes and it simply pops open, one side at a time.

Pushing small blades into the holes proved ineffective.

The holes are for a special tool which avoids snapping the little hooks but you can just do what you did...
