Changing coolant on a W211

In the HowTo section can't see any member have replaced the coolant.

I had a look at WIS, they demonstrated using a vacuum-type cooling system filler.

Is this the only way to do it or is there a drain plug I can drain off the old coolant and refill with new coolant?

Where are the radiator and engine drain plugs?

Thanks

There is a drain tap on the rad

Can you enlighten me where is this drain tap?

I removed the front underpanel and the lowest point I can remove is the rubber tube coming from the expansion to the driver side of the radiator or item 40 on the diagram. It doesn't even have a circlip just a wire clip, as part of Merc cost reduction.

There are a lot of other tubes because of the aircon for tempmatic.

This is for June 2005 W211.

Found it on the near side at the bottom of the radiator corner, there is a plastic tap with a small **** beside it.

Thanks, worth searching for it.:thumb:

Now do I need to find the drainage on the engine block?

Yes. It's on the right side as you look back at the engine...the n/s of the car.

Too late, done the change. Can't find the drain plug on the engine block. Did several rinse of the coolant until almost clear via the expansion tank and the radiator drain plug.

Can see a drain plug on the transmission, on the driver side, I don't think this is what I am looking for.

It's been a while since I did a 211 coolant change but I seem to remember the block drain is on the exhaust side of the block. Certainly that's where it is on older Merc engines......M103 and M104 for instance.
