Hey All

I have a 270 Ml , 163 , its been with my mechanic getting checked over and all was well until the other day . The mechanic test drove the car , it was faultless then he went to restart the car , it wont start . The lights all come on and with the final twist of the key noting happens the engine will not crank .
The starter is fine this has been checked , and with the ignation on cranking the starter wont start the car either .
We now suspect the ECU could be bad , there was some exposed wires where we think a ECU retuning device may have been fitted , and these we think could have shorted the ECU . Theres no codes showing , though STAR was not used .
Id this was the case could a second hand ECU be used , if the correct key for this ECU was used ?or what other options have I got ?

Thanks guys

If the ECU and EIS are swapped together then it should work, but it might be cheaper to have the original ECU repaired.
I suspect an output driver has shorted, which should be a cheap fix.

Have you checked the starter relay is being energised. Try shorting it out and see if the engine runs, if so, the ECU is at least mainly good.

iirc, there is a fuse for the starter relay, have you checked it?

Yes mate. Depends if your mechanic has any soldering skills.

If so and the immobiliser chip is fine, you can just swap them over. Immobiliser follows to the new (used) ecu.

Thanks guys ,
The mechanic has tried shorting the starter , it will crank when shorted but the car still wont start , this is what is leading us to suspect the ECU . By output driver do you mean the signals sent to and received form the various sensors ? the wires we found striped relate to the MAP sensor .
All the fuses have been checked and are fine .
Where could I get the ECU repaired ?
hes a very competent mechanic ,im sure he can resolder what needs .

Hi Shorty

I used Automotive ECU Testing - ECU Repair and Exchange for my A class MAS/ECU monolith , turned it around in two days. They come well recommended.

If they receive the ECU and nothing is wrong with it , they only charge you for the test.

Good luck

Thanks Howard

I pass this information to the mechanic , hopefully this will sort it , ive owned the car since December and its been with the mechanic since then ,ive forgotten what it looked like LOL

I wanted the car checked over to ensure the where no issues , as I suspected a gear box issue and leaky injectors .
Its had two injectors removed and reconed , the box serviced and checked , new heater plugs and rear brakes .
