Hi all,

We have a 2006 B-Class with a blown headlamp bulb. Have bought a new bulb from the dealer but on first attempt to change the bulb, I have realised that I have only got one hand to do this with (as its quite deep down there). Can't see what I am doing either so was trying to do it blind but without success :o . Phoned the dealer and they said that the car needs to go up on the ramp as the bulb needs to be replaced from underneath. I have been quoted £62 + VAT. Surely I don't need to pay over £70 just to get a bulb changed

Has anyone done this themselves? Any advice appreciated.

Thanks,
Steve

Buy a set of ramps (a tenner from Aldi), drive it up the ramps, remove the access panel from underneath, and do it yourself.

If you've never driven up ramps before, get someone to guide you.

Don't attempt to do it with a car jack. Not unless you want a squashed head.

Just to update this thread I asked my brother (who is generally handy with cars) to change the bulb for me and it was all done within 5 minutes. I cannot believe Mercedes would need to put it up on a ramp to carry out this bulb change. Thats a £70 saving for me and very pleased too :)

And you've got 1500 posts?? :p

How did he do it:confused:

Generally with newer cars, manufacturers are trying to make it harder for people to do this themselves. Even in the case of changing the bulb in 5minutes! Its just another way for them to make after-service revenue!
