Just wondering, what is the average miles I should be changing the engine oil/ filter knowing I run on WVO?
Cheers.

Seems to be every 5000 miles. This is a lot of oil :)
Thank you.
Olivier

It's cheap really when you consider what it's doing for the engine!

I know but money's really tight, as you I got a mercedes as I can run on veg, so cheaper then running an astra or honda, and there is a lot of things going into the equation...
Cheers.

I did see on Ebay a few months back Shell Helix 10-40 for about £3-£4/Ltr sold in 12 x 1Ltr containers.

change mine every year, 4-5000 miles.
had the astra diesel i drive at work in today at nationwide wakefield for service, 63000 miles on clock, service intervals 20,000 miles, lease co says not to bother with intermediate oil change at 10,000. checked service booklet and last service 40,000 so oil had done 23,000 miles and you could tell it had, black goo
false economy IMHO
been driving courtesy car all day - honda jazz [ with a soft rear offside tyre which i have forgotten to blow up ]

Kwick fit is doing it for 28 pounds. Use to be 25 last year. I'll go there as this is not even the price for the oil if bought it separetly :)

Keep an eye on the Kwik-Fit Spanner Controller. Make sure that he opens the correct drain hole (on one occasion he drained my autobox by mistake), that he doesn't overfill, and that he doesn't use his Mr Universe skills to tighten the sump plug (it needs only 25Nm of torque).

running on veg i change mine around every 5k. its due a change now actually.

i use halfords semi synth. not very expensive and is just one of the things you need to do if running on veg oil.

How much does it cost you for the oil? As for 28 quids they do the filter as well, it's OK I think, even if this is not a mercedes filter.

I think the risk of taking the car to somewhere like Kwik-Fit outweighs the benefit of getting oil changed.

It's a simple job, but there's a number of things they can do wrong. Also, they don't use MB oil filters so no good if the the car is under warranty.

I used to change the oil every 5-6,000 miles but know I stick to the periods as indicated by the in car computer. I normally keep a car for 3-4 years doing about 12,000 pa and I saw no deterioration in the engine over this period. All I seemed to be doing by more frequent oil changes was preserving the car for future owners.....also did not seem to matter when I sold the car so long as the oil had been changed in line the the manufacturers recommendations. Harsh?

Quite right. They can be persuaded to use a customer-supplied filter, but it takes time and trust. My local lot protect themselves by putting "customer-supplied filter" on the invoice; they are of course paranoid about corporate liability.

I don't use them now that I have Costco membership and therefore access to Mobil 1 at a very keen price.

How much is it for 8 litres at costco?

OK, oiled changed. Cost 28.39 but no mobil fully synthetic. They made a booboo last time and fill it with premium oil for 25 quids.
For the mobil fully synthetic it cost 38.39.
The filter is included, they were kind enough to use my own mercedes one and gave me the spare one that come with the oil change.
After all, for 28 ish this is still a bargain.
Hope it help anyone.
All the best Olivier
