It's time to get insurance for the wife's car again and nearly every comparison that I do comes up with Chaucer Direct as being the cheapest.

They seem to tick all the boxes in terms of what they promise but I was wondering if anyone had any first hand dealings with them?

Keep remembering the saying - "if it's too good to be true........"

i'm with them for the w124 this year....no claims so not had any problems

The first post in that link about the hidden charges seems to be a bit of a disease driven by companies cutting their quotes to the bone to come out on top on the comparison sites.

When I was insuring the coupe I did a Confused.com or similar and the company which offered the best quote got there by mandating a tracker (on a 19 year-old car, worth sub 2k) so I went with the next cheapest.

All good until I rang them to change the VRM a couple of months later as I stuck it on a retained number. They charged me £30 for the pleasure. When I asked how they could justify such a charge given that they don't even mail out certificates etc as you download them all yourself it was just explained as an 'admin fee' the same fee would apply for a change of address.

So next year I'll have to go through the rigmarole of following up all cheap quotes on the phone to see what hidden charges lurk within.
