Car
C43 (sold a while back), mondeo currently
I Posted a thread recently entitled 'thinking of defecting', and I still am, but what would you say to an early (2001 51 reg) C32 AMG estate with 95,000 on the clock for £14,950. Very risky ? ISTR that early 203s had some problems. Advertised on Autotrader by a trader (avantgardecars.co.uk). The performance is very tempting.

Cheers

Ian

well i just (quietly) defected and went over to the other side.......fed up with the rust after having it repaired three times, and once again rearing it's ugly head, but to mercedes credit without charge to me.Although a six year old car should never rust as bad as these, anyway i got myself a bmw 330 ci sport and you can get one for 15k with under 40k miles and let me tell you these things dont half shift. the best thing is my insurance is under 400 quid

Yes, see the point but it wont shift like a C32 does!

Early 203's had issues with suspension rubbers and bonnets not being painted enough! Still a C32 for £15 is a lot of car for little money. It was probably well over £55k when new! Does it have full MB service history?

Cheers Alfie, yes it's advertised as FMBSH.

Kenwaic, thanks, the 330 (touring, probably diesel) is on my shortlist as a sensible option, but a backward step performance wise from my C43.

You'll be pleasantly surprised by the 330d, particularly if you let DMS Automotive fettle with it! But there is no substitute for AMG power.
I love the Sport spec but others find the ride too hard.

I drove an SLK32 (same engine as the C32).

yes, powerful. But the sound ain't the same as a V8, and I also thought that the pickup was not as instant.

Make sure you try before you buy.

Also try a W210 E55 or a W208 CLK55 to get another perspective.
