Grober,
if you read down the description it has rear damage. If the engine was knackered there would have been mention of it. MOT and VIC check and this beauty would be back on the road.

My personal opinon would be AVOID!!

These cars are expensive to run and maintain, if you want agood one, pay a premium first and buy a decent one.

I learnt the hard way, i bought a cheap one, restored it and it cost a fortune. Would have been better of buying a 50k miler concours example as it would have cost about the same/less than what my car will owe me once completed.

A decent SEC of that era with sensible miles and good overall condition with no damge will never fetch more than £1-2k. The 88 onwards are the desirable models.

Seriously underestimated the SEC project when i started and got too far in by the time i realised how much exactly was involved. The engine/gearbox and diff rebuild weren't expected when i purchased the car. By the time i had the mechanically aspect redone, fitted the AMG parts/kit/exhaust/wheels and then had it painted it was owing me close to £10k. Still got the interior and sound system to finish off

Definitely non original since the lower cladding should be grey and not body coloured in a 84 car. Rear screen and lower panel is almost certainly away looking at the extensive glass discolouration on both sides. I "speculated " that the engine or body was gone because the "apparent" damage on the surface appeared to be minor and repairable if the rest of the car was sound??? My conclusion was that the overall "hidden" condition of the car was such that together with the accident damage the car was beyond economic repair. Don't get me wrong I love these old coupes but they do rust like pigs after a certain age ;) and this one is 22 years old! That rear damage was maybe the "coup de grace" for the old girl.:(

It all depends on your expectations , a lot of people would be quite happy to spend £350 on a car and just get a year's running around in it without having to spend much on it . If you get longer it's a bonus . If something horrible goes wrong you can either sell it on or break it for spares . At that sort of purchase price you can hardly go wrong .

I agree it is not cost effective to restore , but if you just want a pleasant car to run around in and aren't worried about the odd blemish here or there then it will be just fine . That's the way I look at my 190E - far from perfect but a great little car to run around in .

Sorry IAN but I'm an old cynic and read the small print quote:-
"Vehicle description and damage is only a guide. Universal only offer the purchaser guideline descriptions of the vehicles that are sold at auction. ---- As per our normal terms and conditions, please note that Universal Salvage does not guarantee displayed mileage or engine size. All vehicles are supplied without any Audio equipment and the availability of keys cannot be guaranteed.

top bid at the momentof writing this is £420 remember to add vat at 17.5% and commission at 5%+vat=6%-----23.5% =420+98=£ 518 so far for a car thats possibly a non runner!
Pontoneer
agreed its all down to expectations but in this case I am just saying don't let those expectations be too high. I,m sure you can think of many parts which might be required to make that car roadworthy which are more costly than its current purchase price.

Hi grober.
Wasn't thinking of buying myself! Just put it in the shop window for people to mull over donor/parts etc.
By the way. NO VAT on cars, just the 5% buyer's premium.:)

I reckon that could be a nice cheap car for cheap motoring. Lets face it, at less than £500 if it did die you'd just scrap it and buy another cheap car. In fact you could strip it down and sell the bits at your leisure.

Bangernomics is great :) I really should have a go at it!
