Cheap Rust Removal

Great pics and demo Paul.

Fill a swimming pool full of the stuff and drive in all the rusty MB'S.

Busy place that'd be

I have used this stuff with great results:

Good to hear. I've just ordered some Detox Gel, Hydrate-80, surfex and Dynax-50.

I've got some special vinyl paint as primer which is long term flexible and resilient.
probably going to get 2 pack top coat as well.

Fed up with low grade products not lasting.

After reading the post about using vinegar as a rust removal agent I decided to test it as I was skeptical that vinegar would indeed be acidic enough.

I put two identical bolts into two solutions. The first was vinegar, the second is billed as Aluminium cleaner (probably phosphoric acid). The aluminium cleaner is sold for cleaning brake dust off rims and cleaning aged aluminium components.

After one day I removed the bolts and scrubbed them under running water then re immersed them for another day.
I've just removed and scrubbed them again.

Guess which is which.

Left one, vinegar?

I saw another post on this recently where someone cleaned some other bolts (steel wheel bolts IIRC). Cleaned and scrubbed them, they went rusty as soon as they dried!

It did/does all seem a little 'too good to be true' IMHO.

Thanks anyway - it's saved me/others from messing about trying :)

i bought 5 litres of vinegar from Booker thismorning (aslong with 100 litres of veg oil :p) to test this out.

i'll also report my findings. i'm more skeptical now after seeing Dieselmans post though, but the vinegar was only £2 and i can always use the rest on my chips :D

Maybe the vinegar you use needs to be the concentrated stuff they have in chip shops?

It does seem a little to good to be true though :(

Can't really understand what there is to gain by all of that effort in the original post if it didn't work .....unless he has shares in the vinegar companies :D

Just do a Google search for "rust removal vinegar". There are plenty of examples and references to the effectiveness of vinegar as a rust remover.

just goes to show, cant trust 90% of what you find on internet

[note to self] Do not trust Dieselman :D
