Check break pads and EML light

Hi al
Looking for advice- the EML light has come on in my 2018 C220d estate. The message “check break pads” has also appeared on the screen. Are the 2 linked or is the EML light something else in addition to the brake pads?

The two are not linked.

Sadly, on your car, the EML could be related to the emissions control system (DPF/AdBlue/Sensors), in which case it's not good news pocket-wise... I suggest to get the car scanned on STAR asap and hope for the best - it might be nothing.
