The seal on the lid doesn't always seal and therefore every so often we get a build up of ice around the top of the freezer. Also I find that the lid seems to be light when lifting, as if there is no weight to it.
The freeze if a Bejam make, I know it's old but works very well apart from the above.

Anybody got any advice to try and resolve it ??

Door seals on smart fortwos are notorious for leaking. Some respite is obtained by treating them with Plastic and Rubber Rejuvinating Lubricant. A silicon lube as far as I know, available from Halfords and the likes in aerosol form labled as above (or similar). Might be worth a shot.

Presume it's a chest freezer. Some have adjustable spring tensioners in the hinges, if yours has try slackening the nuts a little.

Heat the seal with a hairdrier and pull it to make it thicker.

The lightness may be a stuck hinge.

add a P strip draught excluder type gasket?

Take the Ex-Wife out so you can shut the lid.
