Or hold a shotgun certificate.

I just despair, utterly risible.

Are these people on the same planet as the rest of us?

No.

I have seen them at work, to be precise the smug, self appointed and self satisfied cretins who trotted out cynical drivel like "A child's life is not worth a medal" in an attempt to get all shooting sports excluded from the 2012 Olympics.

Everybody fell over themselves to be oh so PC until the IOC said "No Shooting, No Olympics". Then they concentrated on making sure that there would be no "legacy" for shooting sports, resulting in huge spend for vast temporary facilities in the wrong place.

How wrong? Well, the Royal Artillery Barracks site at Woolwich is too small to contain the fall of shotgun pellets. So the pretty CGI's are missing something: The Great Wall of Woolwich.

A 24 METRE high wall of ballistic netting strung in a huge semicircle. Yes, 24 metres:eek: The cost of that alone is huge.

Let's not get too carried away. Children have not been banned from attending shooting events, just from participating in a City Hall-sponsored scheme for free tickets. This is a political decision from an organisation that is acutely politically sensitive.

MOCAŠ, the problem that this step poses for the shooting community, is that it equates a noble Olympic sport - involving specialist match-pistols and practised by highly accomplished people - with a the kind of gun culture that we get from rap singers.

I makes as much sense as banning opera in state-funded schools because rappers have bad influence on the young.

I know what you're saying, but where public funding is concerned you're always going to get this kind of skewed thinking. Once we would have blamed it on "loonie lefties", but it's just the way things are now. Everyone's concerned about potential backlashes, especially when there's a mayoral election in the offing.

The fact remains that those people whose children are likely to take up shooting as a sport can still take them to Olympic shooting events.

That article is a complete load of sh*t and irresponsible and not factual, why do our athletes have to practice abroad? FAC is difficult but not impossible a well reasoned argument and secure storage away from the holders home address is normally sufficient.

Typical GB nanny state and irresponsible journalism, still I guess we are good at that

You may be right on the other counts, but not on that one.

This is democracy in action. The mayor has taken a politically-motivated decision, calculated not to harm his chances of re-election. His advisors know exactly how the majority public opinion sits in London at the moment, and have advised him accordingly.

Because the pistols used are prohibited weapons and despite huge lobbying until 2010 people had to train abroad. The day after the Olympics closes that will most likely start to happen again.

Again, this nothing to do with the Mayor's views on the moral welfare of the nation's children. It's about votes. ;)

People living outside London may also have opinions, but they can't vote in the mayoral election.

Sorry I totally agree with you about votes but why should that affect the rest of the nation just because they can't vote. Maybe they should hold the shooting in Liverpool and Invite Boris? that would solve the problem :D

Sorry but cartridge pistols are banned in this country, except long barrel pistols.

These have a minimun barrel lenght of 12" and a overall minimum length of 24" not really a pistol when it is two foot long.

Muzzel loading pistols are still legal to shoot.

Have you misconstrued what the issue is?
