Chime when drivers door opens, WHY?

Sometimes when I open the drivers door on my s320 2004 model I hear a chime and sometimes I do not? In fact most times I do not but I would like to know why this happens?

Does anyone have an idea why this happens? Is it significant or a warning of some sort?

Usually its to remind you to switch something off /switch something on before leaving the vehicle. Radio/lights/windows/sunroof/handbrake etc

Mine chimes when i leave the keys in the ignition and open the drivers door

I think mine does it when the lights are on Auto setting and it's dark enough for them to be activated (on) and I open the door with the key in the ignition. I've an idea it also does it if I haven't put it in Park, but turned the engine off and left the key in. I could be wrong on that though. I'll have to check.

Mine sounds like a Fog Horn, oops! sorry that is the Mother in law

Thanks for the replies however it happens when I come to get the car out of the garage in a morning. Maybe it's because the lights come on when I unlock and open the door?
