...On the other hand, this 'piggy back' electronic resistor device...
Avoid that like the plague, see this related thread...
http://mbclub.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=11565&highlight=resistor

or this one...
http://mbclub.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=8990&highlight=resistor

It's basically a simple resistor that even the stealerships sell for peanuts.

A proper ECU upgrade is like to cost in the region of £200 to £300 ish squids.

If you seriously want to spice up your C180 then check out Koolvin's Turbo thread for some hardcore inspiration, a long read but well worth it...

and a related thread here

I am not on awind up, seriously, seriously seriously......

If you find your C180 too slow, understandable given it is the base model, buy a C-Class with a bigger engine!

Give it some consideration, it might not cost as much as you think to change and if you are much happier with the drive it is worth it. Tuning will not give big results and in my opinion is a waste of time unless you already have one of the biggest stock engines available!

With Graham on this one, I had a C180, I spent a lot of time and money trying to get more power but I was still dissapointed, I took the plunge and bought my C250TD and have never looked back.

Dont wish to offend anyone but a 1.8 in a big, heavy car is never going to excite anyone.

THe K&N everyone is telling you to get is a Air Filter and may give about a 4 bhp increase. I think the K&N's though have a history of killing your MAS sensor and a Green Cotton Filter is the prefered choice, about £40/50 Green Cotton LINKAGE K&N LINKAGE Do a search on this forum there's plenty of info on these - advantages/problems etc
The "chip" people are on a bout is a Superchip CLICK ME and will give about a 10 bhp increase for about £300 . Yet again do a search on this forum as members have done this too.
If your feeling your C180 is a drag I don't think these small increases will do much for you - Definatly bigger engined car is what you want!! ;)

Good Luck & let us know how you get on ;)

Just have to pick one from the list below  'borrowed' from HonestJohns website

w202 start with
122 bhp C180,
136 bhp C200,
150 bhp C220 four,
148 bhp C230 four,
193 bhp C230 Kompressor,
170 bhp twin-spark C240 V6,
193 bhp C280 straight six,
280 bhp C36AMG;

94 bhp C220D,
113 bhp C250D and
150 bhp C250TD.
(C250TD is a very good diesel, replaced by new 125 bhp/221 lb ft C220 CDI common rail indirect injected diesel.)

Estates are smart and offer more status than saloons. 5-speed autos standard from 1997.

Top model
4.3 litre 40 valve 310 bhp V8 C43 (Those lucky enough have a :bannana: )
(lists at £47,640 and originally sold for over list, as did)
218 bhp 320 CLK coupe and convertible. (You can have a :bannana: too)

--------------
Also have you given it a good clean out? new filters, plugs, oil change, checked tyre pressures etc

This might help!

Cheers

Sparky
