Chrome grill bars

Hi all, has anyone removed or attempted to remove the four chrome trim bars on the front grill on a W205.
I can see they are attached by some clips but don’t want to break anything.

Get them wrapped or painted maybe ? whatever is underneath them is probably not going to be pretty.

Well funny you should say that, I was thinking of painting the the four grill bars body colour, hence the removal of chrome strips.

On the 204 they are slide on/off there are locating lugs on the rear of the bars that slot into grooves on the main frame, is the 205 different?

It doesn’t look if they slide either way, there’s three little tab like clips on the back of each chrome cover and I can’t see how they work. Don’t want to force and break anything, must have another look tomorrow.

Be careful of what you think might be little plastic clip tabs on car trim. Sometimes they are locating lugs to hold trim in place during the heat fusing process and are never meant to be un 'clipped' .

Thanks for that Pete, if I do decide to paint the grille bars I will do it in situ.
