Hi all, Recently bought a 2012 CLS which has been off road for a coupe of years and as such needs a real good detail. I’m good with the paintwork including some stone chips to touch up but the chrome is really faded, almost cloudy in places. Fortunately the years it was on road it had a full MB history and before I bought it was owned by MB so its mechanically like new!

What would you recommend for restoring the chrome to its former glory?

Thanks

Not entirely sure if something like autosol would work. Have used it in the past on things like exhaust tips with good results.

Ironically my chrome was perfect on the CLS and I had it all wrapped in gloss black, as I am not a fan of the chrome!

It’s the bright chrome window trim, it’s not pitted so I’m hoping a bit of autosol will bring it out after a good snow foam and clay...

So I answered my own question on this. Snow foamed, Clayed and hit with autoglym ultra deep shine on a dual action polisher did the job!

Sounds like you were lucky. On a previous car I had all the chrome trim replaced under warranty as it went 'cloudy' in a couple of years from new.

Not sure if it was maybe caused by the sun or harsh chemicals in the local 'hand car wash'. Kept the car covered and away from those hand wash places after the replacement and had no issue. Was either one of those things or MB tweaked the material composition.

what are all these "reported" posts about?
I seen load of them yesterday on various threads
