My cigarette lighter (the black plastic thing you push in the hole and then push the top in ) has got stuck.

I was trying to use my phone charger and nothing was happening thought the phone charger had broken so pushed in the cigarette lighter hoping it would pop out again when hot.

Anyway it did not pop out. I checked the fuse and it had blown (probably due to daughter plugging in ipod chargers portable DVD players etc)

Fuse has been replaced and has not blown again but the ligher has not popped out and is stuck. Is there a simple way to get it out without resorting to trying to get a blade under the plastic edge etc.

Any advice would be appreciated as we are off on holiday and will need it functioning

Tweezers? Needle pliers? You could drill a small hole and screw in a small self tapper and extract with pliers.

Are you 100% sure the replacement fuse is OK? You have got the ignition on?

Good and Bad news

The good news is I got the thing out (using a sharp scalple blade and a tiny screw driver.):bannana:

Bad news is the fuse has blown.

Have replaced fuse now the rear socket works fine (I am measuring 13.4 volts out of it). Front socket is dead.

This seems to run off the same fuse so I have power at back but not at front any ideas? Is there an other fuse at the front for this i.e. 2 fuses for the front, 1 x 15 amp for the rear?

Fuse OK and Ignition On. but nothing at front, rear 12 volt socket is now fine.

cig lighter

is the wire still attached to rear of lighter?. have you been working in area and dislodged either live or earth? try testing at live plug end for power . if ok you need new lighter. damn ipods destroy them all.:thumb:

Looking in the hole everything seems fine.

I have just had an other play. The fuse diagram says F013 (fuse box in boot) is for the "Rear Power Socket". This fuse is the one replaced and is OK. But in the fuse list(nicely folded in Front fuse box next under panel at side of light switch) I can find nothing saying anything about "Front Power Socket" or "Lighter" so does it run off the same fuse or is there an other one?
My suspicions are also raised because the rear sockets states on the cover "15 amp max" which is the fuse rating. But what if you have something plugged in the rear and something in the front.

Also I notice the little light that surrounds the lighter socket is not working.

Sounds like connector has fallen/broken off the back of the lighter. Theres 3 wires, ground, +12 and lighting. Unlikely the ground wire has broken, so more likely plug connecition has broken (its quite hard to remove the connector normally, so I wonder if its broken off somehow)

Look at
Removing/Installing COMAND & Audio on E & CLS

it tells you how to get the audio unit out on the W211 - the 1st 2 parts of the instructions tell you how to remove the ashtray - check the cable is plugged in !!

Fixed it

Turns out the W211 has 3 fuse boxes (not 2)

1 under the bonnett - Drivers side
1 in side panel of dash - Drivers Side
1 in Boot - passenger side

The fuse for the front lighter is under the bonnet. Found blown fuse now fixed.

The manual did not seem to mention the one under the bonnett.

(Think if was fuse 054)

Was just about to tell you this as I got caught too! Took me an age and much pain to sort

Suzy Cute says hello and please can she play in your SLK again like last year at Jays GTG!

Can't find the fuse box

I've got the same problem - blown fuse for the front lighter - but can't find the fuse box under the bonnet - probably being stupid, but can you be more precise about where it is ?

No probs - right at the back on the o/s there is a black plastic box with a lid. The lid goes slightly under a rubber flap. The lid has two locks - one on each side, which are marked with a padlock symbol. Move these locks to unlocked and pull away the lid to the front. Hey presto - you have a load of relays and fuses.

As there is one singular fuse which can be positioned in two ways, I guess this is the lighter fuse. One way will be to provide power only when ignition in, and the other will be permanent live - I guess.

Magic, fixed it. And it was fuse 054.

Strange that there's no mention of this in the manual - the manual only mentions the fuse boxes in the dashboard and in the boot

Thanks

well done! that lid is a swine to refit properly so make sure it IS on properly!!! any damp in there will be trouble in the long run.

Anyone knows which fuse is for glove box light?
