Thinking of trading CLK for a CL ,1999-2002 any advice please on what to look for etc.Do they have similar rust problems to my CLK?

They do have rust issues, mainly where the the Aluminium meets the steel.
Beware that it will have the running costs of a £60k+ car.
Post April 2001 registered cars will pay VED based on CO2, which for all models will be the top M band (£435 in 2010)
I'm surprised to hear of the rust issues in such a premium car. My wife's 2003 Smart ForTwo has an aluminium rear bumper beam, which has also caused the steel body rear panel to rust. It seems MB can't stop the laws of Chemistry, whether it's a £6k or £60k car!

I don't think this is true. I looked on the DVLA website HERE and it says that higher polluting cars (> 225 g/km) registered post 1 Apr 01 but pre 23 Mar 06 still have a lower VED band (Band K) even after 1 April 2010.
Thank you for the correction. My mind was thinking pre 2009 budget.
